Joe Hoffmaster has boated on the Potomac River his whole life and is the second generation manager of Hoffmaster's Marina, which operates on the Occoquan River about 20 miles south of Washington, DC. The Hoffmaster family has had a longstanding relationship with the Potomac River: Joe's Cousin Hal was chief usher at the White house during the Truman and Eisenhower administrations. His grandfather sold hams in SW Washington DC and his father sold newspapers as a boy at the Washington Harbor ferry terminal. His great grandfather operated a barge on the C&O canal. Joe has spent his entire life on the river and has a deep love for it. "I feel like the Potomac River is totally underrated as a destination" says Joe: "You have Washington, DC, National Harbor and Alexandria for city environs, historic towns such as Occoquan, Colonial Beach, Leonardtown, and St. Mary's City that offer tourism opportunities, and resort marinas dotting the map where there are swimming pools, restaurants, and other activities. All of these places are accessible to the transient boater. For example, most people don't know that Mount Vernon welcomes private boats on Mondays.
I have boated on the Potomac River my entire life and have still not seen everything it has to offer.
Hoffmaster's Marina offers wet slips, dry storage, a grille, boat sales both new and pre-owned, and a full-service yard. Come visit and you'll know why our motto is "Welcome to the Family, Growing Since 1954.
